Domain names
A domain name is the web address people type into a browser to visit a website.
For example, Its Your Hosting uses the domain name www.itsyourhosting.co.uk.
In simple terms:
It’s the human-readable name that points to a website, instead of using a complicated numerical IP address.
To register the domain name you have to
- check its available – search online or within a company that sell these.
- open an account or ask ItsYourHosting to buy it for you.
- register it by buying it
What domain to buy?
- There are hundreds of extensions (.com .co.uk .biz .org etc) so choose carefully, some are more expensive than others!
- Choose something thats not too long – remember your email address will be part of this and you will have to tell people something thats easy to write down.
- Choose a domain name that says what you do if possible – this helps Google rank your website for searches.
